Heritage Quarter History

At the heart of Chippenham lies the Heritage Quarter, where centuries of history meet daily life. From the medieval Buttercross and Yelde Hall to the Georgian Causeway and 19th-century civic buildings, this area has always been the cultural and civic centre of the town. It’s where Chippenham’s identity as a historic market town is most visible.

Here you’ll find Chippenham Community Hub which is the centre of community services and host to the Chamber and Town team movement, Chippenham Museum, which tells the story of the town’s past and present, alongside historic venues such as the Parish Church of St Andrew, the Angel Hotel, and the bustling Market Place. The main bus station and library are situated in Timber street - all within an area that offers a range of places to eat that are just around the corner from other long-established pubs cafes, restaurants and Angel hotel.

It is an area that offers welcoming places to eat and drink in a setting where visitors can enjoy modern menus in surroundings that are steeped in history.
